Emotional Cheating And Online Affair
Emotional cheating is a very common type of cheating in this day and age. Modern living has made it easier to form emotional attachment to someone other than your regular partner. This is because long days at work and the internet have changed the way people interact with each other and their partners. With the pressure to earn a living, people come home from office tired and frustrated that there is less inclination to talk and spend time together. In other words, people become more and more detach from their regular partners because there is less quality time being spent as a couple. There is just “no time” to invest in the relationship and maintain it.
But being human means people do need companionship. We all have a need to be understood and feel appreciated. When these are missing from our relationships, we will be attracted to seek comfort elsewhere. Commonly, colleagues end up as “good friends” because the fact that two people spend so much time together working for the same boss can end up with a special bond. Both understood each other and the pressures of their jobs. Spending a lot of time together also creates opportunity to talk to each other about things apart from work such as marital problems, dreams and fears. From there, it is a slippery slope towards emotional cheating.
Similarly, people can also seek comfort online. They can chat, flirt and just share their deepest feelings and fantasies with an online friend. It is not hard to find someone to share your sorrows over the net as there are a multitude of sites that help people to “connect”.
What Is Emotional Cheating?
When a person forms deep emotional attachment with someone outside of his primary relationship, he is emotionally cheating on his partner. This new relationship has to be meaningful and acts in a way that is preventing him and his regular partner from sharing emotional intimacy, which is crucial for a healthy relationship. In short, someone else has replaced his partner to become his emotional soul mate, causing both of them to be increasingly distant.
Many people do not consider emotional cheating an actual affair because the participants might never meet face to face or have sex. But time and energy spent with another individual outside the main relationship means the cheater is taking something from his partner and giving it to another. It is depriving the spouse or lover of his total involvement. Even when there is no sexual contact, there is an emotional attachment to the comfort that is found talking to the “friend”, either through the web, phone or in person, and finding fulfillment of one sort or another. A need is being fulfilled by a third party and the cheater is depriving the partner of that role, not to mention presumed trust.
Online Affair
Technology has made it far simpler for people to engage in emotional cheating on their partners. Whether at work or at home, a cyber-affair is always convenient, just a mouse click away, even if your spouse or lover is in the next room. Once cyber cheaters connect, the internet provides a convenient means for the relationship to continue. There is simply no necessity to meet and yet the relationship can continue to thrive.
It is widely believed that an online affair will lead to physical intimacy. Many surveys seem to indicate that about one-third of people who began an online affair ended up being physically intimate with their cyber “friend”.
While an online affair is far easier to conduct with today’s technology, the good news is techonolgy has also made it far simpler for you to catch a cheating spouse or partner. There are various softwares available that can help you uncover online cheating although you will have to use them in accordance with privacy laws.
